Probably the most mainstream discourse against pornography in India comes from the “no-fap” online forums and clickbait content. This is largely, if not exclusively, driven by misguided notions from the toxic manosphere. Even conservative/right-wing parties and their ecosystems do not have an organised movement against pornography, which is probably for the best, considering their puritanical and regressive ideas.

But there is, regrettably, a complete lack of an organised, nationwide, non-puritanical movement against pornography that is not based on moral policing. Even though many people in India are familiar with radical feminist and/or radical queer theory’s opposition to the pornography industry, no local campaign or movement against it has taken off. The usual response from liberals, centrists, and leftists is that the state should not be allowed to censor citizens, so best look the other way on this issue, if not mounting a spirited defence of pornography.

Strange and unacceptable, considering pornography’s direct and obvious relationship to the rampant rape culture in this country.
